Information from Paul F. Smith, great great great grandson of Gen. John Slater Besser and his wife Julia A. Louise Hampton Besser, founders of the cemetery:

Besser Cemetery, a small private cemetery, located on private property, in New Waverly, Texas was established in 1845, in Montgomery Co., (now Walker Co.) Republic Of Texas. 

Paul is in the process of gathering information to get Besser Cemetery designated as a Texas Historic Cemetery.
